Ambassador Gong Jianwei, Executive Director of CICA Secretariat, participated in the International Conference “Religions against Terrorism” on 31 May 2016 in Astana. Two hundred delegates from 41 countries attended the conference. Religious leaders representing Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Taoism and Hinduism were among the participants. The conference also brought together representatives of international organizations like OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, CIS Interstate Parliamentary Assembly, United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) of OSCE and King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID).
The conference was held for the development of the important initiatives of the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, to strengthen interreligious dialogue and the consolidation of political and religious leaders at countering international terrorism. Delegates endorsed the initiative of President Nazarbayev to establish a global coalition against terrorism under auspices of UN and adoption of a comprehensive UN Convention on counter-terrorism in accordance with the provisions of the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The participants called upon the global community to support the manifesto of President Nazarbayev, "Peace. XXI Century ", offering global strategy and joint and responsible actions to be taken by all nations in order to destroy the virus of war and conflict..
